Sporty Spice

As you might have heard, Qatar is hosting (maybe) the Football World Cup in 2022.

In preparation, they have been dipping their toes in a ton of different sports.

So whenever Qatar gets to host something, we normally skip along for something to do. Earlier this year, I had the opportunity to watch the Qatar Tennis Open.

It quickly got cold as we watched Rafael Nadal pick at his shorts (he has a problem). I think I forgot that it does sometimes get cold in Qatar, but I ended up buying a pretty awesome bright green blanket so it was definitely worth it.

The next event I got to attend was the World Handball Championship! I gotta be honest, I knew nothing about handball.

Poland was playing and I must say it was pretty awesome.
Before the game, they had tents set up for face paint and even to test your handball skills.

I wasn't terrible!

Inside, we got to watch two matches.

And after, there was a surprise concert by Gwen Stefani!
Because I guess she's a handball fan?

Other than that, I gotta say I'm not a super sporty person, as anyone that knows me could tell you.

But I do excel at some things!
If you count taking pictures of my food- which I could win a gold medal in!

I'll spare you any more.

But, as I reflect on this year in Qatar, I would say chasing after this bunch all year counts as competing in the Olympics.

As any first year teacher (or any year teacher) can tell you, teaching is EXHAUSTING. Spending all day answering "Miss, what?" "Miss, why?" questions is incredibly draining. When I get home from work, all I can do is drag myself to my couch and hopefully my book is waiting for me.
After way too many indoor recesses and cancelled PE classes, I'd say I have done my fair share of running, jumping, Go- Noodling, graduationing, and more.

It was an amazing first year in Qatar and couldn't have asked for better friends, more supportive coworkers, or funnier students, although I feel like I've run a 10 month marathon.

See you later KGA, I'll see you in August!
