Weekend Getaway

Wanna get away?
A couple of us were thinking it was time to get out of Doha, so of course our first thought was...
"Why not to the lovely Kingdom of Bahrain?" Read more...

We jetted off right after school for our flight. We booked the soonest flight out so there would be no time wasted. It lasted 15 minutes- no joke. When we landed, we picked up the car Danieal was smart to have ordered and headed off to our weekend of luxury.

We found a Mexican restaurant in the hotel!
I've always thought that a Bahraini Mexican restaurant sounded good (not).
We were very excited as you can see.
It turned out to be about as good as you might have expected.
I should have taken an after photo after eating my soil tasting chicken.

The next morning we decided to check out their souk.

In Doha, the souk is purely for pedestrians. But, not in Manama, the capital of Bahrain.

We found ourselves winding our way through some of the smallest streets complete with open stalls. No one even seemed bothered by our car making its way through. A nice Bahraini lady even helped us navigate.

and we found Justin Bieber!

After finding our way out of the maze, we found a parking spot.
That you needed coins to pay for.
Which we didn't have.
So Danieal made her way to a police station and used her Arabic skills to get some money.

In Doha, nothing is really open on Fridays as it is the day for prayer. But, in Manama, everything was open and we even spotted some people praying during the noontime prayer.

After the souk, we headed to our main attraction for the weekend: the pool.

After lounging all day, we found ourselves at an Italian restaurant for dinner.

The next morning, we ventured back out to eat some Bahraini food!

I ordered some tea and we all got a traditional breakfast that seemed to consist of a lot of beans and eggs.

This place came as a recommendation and it did not disappoint.
I cannot remember any names of the food we ate but it was amazing.
We were the only tourists, so it definitely felt pretty authentic.

There was also a cheese and honey sandwich that was to die for.

The restaurant was so good, although we did overorder in our eagerness.

Then, we went back to the pool.

I don't know if I would say Bahrain is the most exciting place in the world, but there are limited options for weekend getaways over in this part of the world.

These camels were there to send us off!
Two days later, I was definitely rested and ready to get back to Doha.
Mission accomplished.
