The view from the balcony of our cabin was a good indicator of the quaint, Italian things to come.
I truly just wanted to hang out with my mom so wandering around this northern Italian city was the perfect first stop.
At the first sign of dogs, I was smitten.
The main area of Genoa is small so it was quite easy to stroll around...
with pretty great things to view.
We enjoyed the sights of the Piazza De Ferrari fountain while shooing away the men hawking selfie sticks. All over Italy, at all the famous sights, there were people selling selfie sticks.
Too bad I already have one!
The Teatro Carlo Felice overlooks the fountain and is the main opera house in Genoa. It also has an impressive statue of Garibaldi looking over it.
As we did not have a set itinerary, we could go down any alleyway that happened to catch our attention.
Everyone knows Italian food is spectacular and we wanted to make sure to try some of the local foods. Genoa is known for its focaccia! We got a couple and shared them on the steps of the Genoa Cathedral of San Lorenzo...
Did you know that the Genoa Cathedral houses one of the main contenders for the Holy Chalice (Holy Grail)?
While we got to watch a dachshund prance around the square. What entertainment!
I made sure to get one with a pork product...
We also stumbled upon a local farmer's market.
We spent some time enjoying some coffee and enjoying the sun before purchasing some Genoan pesto, another item that northern Italy is known for.
The most important stop of the trip was my first gelato! I subscribe to the one gelato per day that you are in Italy mentality.
We took one last stroll through the main squares before heading back to the ship's bus.
